Painted along Fire Creek near the Lost Lake trailhead, Fire Creek No.4 focuses on the contrast between the heavy forms of the surrounding forest and the light moving through the creek below. A large tree trunk frames the composition while fallen branches, exposed roots, and reflected color gather around the water. The piece uses deep shadow and intense areas of color to emphasize the enclosed, layered character of the creek as it moves through the Chuckanut forest.
