Rising Stars: Voyage Washington Interview

In June 2026, Voyage Washington featured my work as part of its Rising Stars series, highlighting the experiences, challenges, and philosophy that have shaped my journey as a Pacific Northwest landscape painter. The interview traces my artistic path from childhood through years of formal training, graphic design, and plein air painting, to becoming a represented artist with Harris Harvey Gallery in Seattle.

Throughout the interview, I discuss the realities of pursuing a career in the arts—the setbacks, uncertainty, and persistence required to build a meaningful body of work. Rather than focusing solely on finished paintings, the conversation explores the importance of process, describing how I travel throughout Washington in a converted mobile studio, creating large-scale paintings entirely on location while living within the landscapes I paint.

The feature also examines the artistic influences behind my work, including Romanticism, Impressionism, abstraction, and the cultural history of the Pacific Northwest. By combining direct observation with weeks of fieldwork, I aim to create paintings that capture not only the appearance of a place but the experience of inhabiting it. The interview concludes with a look toward the future, discussing my goals of continuing to explore the Pacific Northwest, expanding the scale of my work, and building a lasting career rooted in both artistic ambition and long-term stability.
