Fire Creek No.4

It feels strange writing these in reverse order. Fire Creek No. 4 was created near Nos. 3 and 5; in fact, all three paintings were created within 15 feet of one another.
This particular location near the Lost Lake parking lot along Chuckanut Drive isn’t where most people go. In fact, I’d venture to say I’m one of the few. To reach it, you have to move quickly along the roadway, which has no shoulder, until you reach a small entrance in the bushes. The upper section of Fire Creek sees almost no visitors and was a welcome change after painting in the lower section of the creek.
This piece fell together extremely quickly, almost like fast food. I saw what I wanted and captured it in about two to three hours. While remaining somewhat abstract, I love the piece’s selective detail and larger shapes. The shadows and reflections in the water help ground the vertical composition.
